Question Two: What Do I Want?

Time to dig into question two:

What do I want out of your blog? Yes, blogging works, but only if you know your why? What do you want your readers to get out of what you write? What impact do you want to make?

What Should I Want?

The obvious and real answer is to be on the first page of Google when someone searches for anything on ‘About Me’ pagers, website copy, blogging or content creation. And that is a worthy goal to have. But, and yes, there is a but here, Google isn’t the most transparent company when explaining their ranking system. Why? Easy, bad faith players abuse the system. You want Google to make that as difficult as possible, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. Or that keeping up is easy. That’s why you create marketing departments or pay content pros, depending on your size and budget. As a solopreneur, nope, this isn’t a SMART goal I can achieve. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still going to optimize for SEO, but I’m not counting on it.

So, What Is The Real Point?

So, what is the point of all this? Okay, bare with me. I know what I’m about to say might seem a little, or a lot, woo, but I want to be of loving service

On October 24, 2022, Leslie Jordan died. I was a fan, and after, of course, there were many tributes. I went on a deep dive into them recently and into his life story. He was honest about his flaws, his troubles with addiction and depression as well as his joy and joie de vivre. And he spoke about this concept, and how it revolutionized his career. The concept: be of loving service; to the director, the producer, his fellow actors and, mostly, to the vision that brought them all there in the first place. I want that to be this blog.

I want people to come here for advice. To be inspired. To have their confidence built. To find a way to express their authentic self in their marketing. I want people reading this and coming out the other side knowing that they are a rock star. Me, I’m their fan, the rock journalist who puts words around the intangible that makes them great. Most of all, I want them to know they deserve rock

star status.

Thank you Leslie.
